A recent Swedish study published in the journal Scientific Reports found that people who own dogs are healthier and live longer than people who don’t. The 12-year study tracked 3.4 million middle-aged and older adults who did not have heart disease at the beginning of the study period.
Researchers concluded that dog owners who lived in multiple-person households had lower rates of death than non-dog owners in multi-person homes. The results were more pronounced for people who lived alone. Dog owners who lived alone were less likely to die when compared with people who lived alone and didn’t have a dog.
