Recipe: Tea Sandwiches to Share With Your Dog

Teatime is a lovely way to spend the afternoon with your dog! Whether it’s a picnic in the park or a formal indoor event, these doggie (and human) tea sandwiches will delight!

What you’ll need:

  1. Bread – Choose a basic white or whole wheat. Avoid anything with added sugars, nuts, seeds or fruit, as those can be bad for your dog. Even try a gluten-free bread option.
  2. Sugar-free peanut butter (no xylitol)
  3. Apples — thinly sliced
  4. Ceylon cinnamon
  5. Cream cheese
  6. Cucumber — thinly sliced
  7. Mint — leaves only, chopped

For peanut butter apple tea sandwich:

  1. Spread peanut butter on two slices of bread.
  2. Place apples evenly on one side.
  3. Sprinkle just a touch of cinnamon on the apples.
  4. Close with other slice of bread.

For cucumber cream cheese tea sandwich:

  1. Spread cream cheese on two slices of bread.
  2. Place cucumbers evenly on one side.
  3. Add a pinch of chopped mint.
  4. Close with other slice of bread.

Other tips for making dog-friendly tea sandwiches:

For a proper tea sandwich, remove the crusts and cut in half (quarters if you have a small dog). You can add other dog-friendly fruits and veggies, as well as sliced unseasoned chicken or turkey. Another favorite combo is hard-boiled eggs, chopped with unsweetened plain yogurt and a touch of fresh basil for the perfect egg salad.
