Branch Freedman is one half of Gamla, a contemporary home object design studio with a concept retail store on Bowen Island, Canada. In addition to gorgeous furniture and home objects, Gamla also has a line luxurious dog dens and feeders (featured previously on Dog Milk here and here). The collection is aptly named “For Gimli”, inspired by the little pup who wiggled her way into Branch’s heart a little over 2 years ago. Let’s get to know Miss Gimli, shall we?
Name? Gimli (named after a town in Manitoba, Canada)
Nicknames? Gimels, The Dogter
Age? 2 ½ years
Breed? Welsh Terrier
What’s “The Scoop”? We picked Gimli up in a fast-food restaurant parking lot in the middle of Saskatchewan in the dead of winter from a breeder who called her the “Tasmanian devil” of the litter.
Six months before that, we were living in a loft in Railtown, Vancouver when our friends asked us to dog-sit Franklin, their then 5 month old Airedale. Franklin was goofy and just active enough for us, but our building didn’t allow big dogs. So we did what any sane person does: found a smaller version (for the record, this is not always the wisest of all moves). Turns out Welsh Terriers are a lot sassier than Airedales, but she’s hilarious and we wouldn’t trade her in for anything.
Favorite Toy? A stuffed raccoon that she’s killed at least two dozen times over the last two years.
Favorite Food? Red Dog Blue Kat Raw Meaty Bones.
Favorite place to sleep? In between the back of the sofa and its cushion, or, most often, in her den. But if we have guests over, her preferred sleeping spot is with them on their bed.
Pet Peeves? Hip hop and dancing. She basically turns into a grumpy old man around either.
Best Trick? Using her front paws to slam the front door open from the outside. It’s her grand entrance, every single time. (We’re still working on the closing it behind her part.)
Gear? The Gimli Dog Line, obviously 
Other than that, we bought a really simple leather collar and lead at a market over a year ago that she still uses to this day.
If your dog were another animal what animal would that be? A cat-racoon-deer-lamb mix.
Gimli found a magical genie lamp! What are her three wishes? Unlimited access to a sunny yard that has a comfortable couch with a solid back to lay on, a lake and a beach filled with other friendly dogs, and never-ending playtime with kids under the age of 10.
