The Scoop: Kate Banazi and Stanley

The Scoop: Kate Banazi and Stanley

Kate Banazi is one of my favorite people on the planet. An extremely talented silkscreen printer and illustrator, her work explores movement through the layering of bold colors and graphic elements. Oh, and she’s ridiculously witty to boot. Her dog, Stan, is a constant companion, whether at the studio, home, or the beach (they live in Sydney!). Let’s get to know more about this handsome pup, shall we?

Name? Stanley

Nickname(s)? Nothing we can actually shout in the park in public.

Age?
Around 7 or 8 we think — he’s a pound dog, picked up as a stray.

Breed? A Staffie mixed with Australian Cattle Dog… we think.

What’s “The Scoop”? We went to the local Cat and Dog shelter (sydneydogsandcatshome.org) and we saw him there — our son picked him immediately, he was so happy to be taken out for a walk and we just bonded with him straightaway. He’s been an absolute joy to have as part of the family.

Favorite Toy? A tennis ball and all is ok with the world. Stan loves to swim more than anything, so a trip to the beach where we can swim with him and a tennis ball is perfect.

Favorite Food? He does love a snack out of the cat litter tray….

Favorite place to sleep? In the garden or on the sofa — terrible I know…

Pet Peeves? The cat being on a lap instead of him (he’s the size of a robust pig) or the cat on his bed in front of the heater. Any way I look at it it, the cat is his pet peeve. He couldn’t quite believe it when a kitten attacked him through a cage at the vet and half an hour later she was at home eating out of his bowl. Every evening he looks at the cat then me with sad mournful eyes saying ‘Look what your baby animal hormonal triggers have done’. :/

Best Trick? “Dance Stan!” He can dance on his hind legs for a liver treat. He also can make food disappear off of low lying tables without anyone noticing.

Gear? Stanley’s a cheap date, he could probably do with a little breath freshener in the cat litter, but other than that he has his collar and anything that resembles a lead. We’ve been known to walk him on a bungee cable when we’ve misplaced the string/bra strap/ electrical cord that usually suffice.

If your dog were another animal what animal would that be? If Stan could chose, he would be a male human animal with slippers and a pipe.

There’s been an accident at a nearby science lab and Stan has now gained supernatural powers. What are his new abilities and is he a hero or villain? Absolute buffoon hero who cleans everyone’s cat litter trays out in the middle of the night….. I think the science lab accident may actually have already happened.
