10 Adorable Dogs I Met at the New Dog Cafe in Los Angeles

The Dog Cafe held its grand opening in Los Angeles on Thursday, giving residents and tourists alike a place to enjoy a cup of coffee while socializing with adorable adoptable pups. I spent some time in the dog lounge (which is separate from the beverage room, because having dogs where you serve drinks is not cool with some people — like the health department), and I can tell you: The Dog Cafe is as amazing as it sounds!

Sarah Wolfgang makes all of this possible. When she walks into the dog lounge, all the pups come running. They know she is the one who brought them to this amazing place, where they can hang out with dog-loving humans, doggie friends, and hopefully find a forever home.

In no particular order, here are 10 of the dogs I met and got to love on during the grand opening:

1. Biggie

This 3-month old Border Collie/German Shepherd mix gets you right in the heart with those puppy-dog eyes. He won’t chew up your shoes. He promises! He may have chewed on my shoelaces while I was with him, but I promised him I wouldn’t say anything, so you didn’t hear that from me.

Two words — PUPPY TEETH. Do you find them as adorable as I do?

2. Oreo

A Poodle mix, this 15-year-old fellow is blind, but holds his own in the pack. He will come right up to you for some kisses and love.

3. Shrek

More adorable teeth! (Photo by Wendy Newell)

Shrek the Shih Tzu, 9 years old, owns his name! Just like the Dreamworks character, he is more lovable than scary. In fact, his adorable underbite makes you want to kiss him on the nose!

4. Betsy (and 5. Chris)

At The Dog Cafe, the sofa belongs to the dogs. If you’re lucky, they will let you share it with you, and they may just crawl right onto your lap. Betsy, a Cattle Dog/Welsh Corgi mix, and her friend Chris, a Papillon/Chihuahua, sit together to make lots of room for a human to join them.

6. Bart

Chris likes to relax and cuddle really close. This time he snuggles between a willing human and Bart, a Dachshund/Jack Russell mix.

7. Twinkie

“Where’s the party?” Twinkie, a Cairn Terrier, asks. She does not want to be left out so would prefer if you just carry her around with you wherever you go.

8. Smalls

You look gorgeous, Smalls. (Photo by Wendy Newell)

Smalls, a Poodle mix, isn’t sold on her new haircut. I told her it looked fab and that she should wear it with pride! Everyone knows the puffy head/close-cut body is all the rage on the doggie runway this season.

9. Moonshine

This Miniature Pinscher/Terrier stops her wiggle-butt dance around the room to sit and survey the pack and people. Tongue out, of course.

10. Lisa

Being this cute is exhausting Lisa, a Dachshund/Jack Russell, who takes a break to cuddle up against her foster mom and brother Bart. (Get it — Lisa and Bart?!)

Be sure to stop by The Dog Cafe if you are in Los Angeles. Betsy is watching the door and waiting for you.
