One day in early October, a terrible dog owner in Wales, while biding his time as a passenger in a car, apparently thought to himself, “I wonder if I can simply let my dog run alongside the car while I sit inside the car and hold the leash?”
That’s a crazy thing to think, by all accounts. But what is far crazier is that the man acted upon his crazy thought. He did not just chuckle to himself and disregard his moment of lunacy. He doubled down on it. He let the dog out, shut the door, told his driver to motor on, and held the leash while the dog ran alongside.
In traffic.
And sometimes he dragged the dog, according to an eyewitness, because that’s what happens when you do something as insane as walk your dog from a car.
Fortunately, a passenger in a car behind this madness took a video of the event, and the search is on for the driver and leash-holding passenger. Not surprisingly, the dog is also alarmingly thin.
“I actually felt sick,” Rebecca Jane Feazelle, who filmed the event, told Wales Online. “There were a few cars in front of us between us and the guy with the dog, but they didn’t care. They were just overtaking it.”
Rebecca has two dogs herself — Ollie and Dylan — and she showed the video to South Wales Police, who are investigating. Officers found the car, but still have not located the occupants or the dog.
According to Rebecca, the ride was anything but smooth.
“On that part where it’s approaching the roundabout, the dog tugs with its neck to try to get away from the car, but then it realizes it’s just got to keep going,” she said. You can watch the video at Wales Online.
Now, there’s an online petition calling for the driver to be prosecuted. It has more than 6,500 signatures. Here’s the message on the site:
This video was recorded in Cardiff, South Wales and it shows a person dragging a dog behind a moving car holding the animal on a leash! The dog is exhausted and emaciated. He can barely keep up with the car and you can see that his hip bones are protruding through his skin.
A clear license plate can be seen and it says Y 968 SRV!
Support my petition and urge the authorities to investigate the case and prosecute the owner for being irresponsible and for mistreating his dog! Demand justice for the poor animal and make sure the owner is punished and banned from owning pets again!
