Dogs Walk the Catwalk at the Beverly Hills Dog Show

Lovers of the National Dog Show, which airs every Thanksgiving, will bark over a new televised event airing on the USA Network at 8 p.m. EST this Easter Sunday: The Beverly Hills Dog Show presented by Purina. This West Coast event will feature the same experts from the National Dog Show, including hosts David Frei and John O’Hurley, but have a Hollywood feel and feature a red carpet and fashion-show style runway for the seven Best in Show finalists.

I caught up with Jason Dolan from Purina at The National Dog Show this past November, and he told me more about the show.

“You think of Westminster as the prestigious event, like the Oscars or Emmys, and the National Dog Show as sort of the everyman’s show,” he said. “There’s opportunity to … really bring in entertainment aspects.”

This new show will have “a mixture of celebrities and VIP guests. It’s still a dog show, but it’s going to feel like a fashion show.” A daytime encore of the show will air on April 17 and again on NBC April 23.
